The Diffusion of Innovation into the Complex Healthcare System
There’s no shortage of ideas in today’s health tech environment. But commonly, innovators fail to effectively communicate their advance to key audiences. Simply put, they’re winking in the dark. Today’s innovation requires more than just a good idea. From strategy to the inertia of the current medical system, real change will only occur if broad adoption is part of the innovative idea. John Nosta and Ran Balicer will discuss the empowerment of the “big idea” and this critical path to success.

Investors Master – What are unique investment challenges and opportunities in the HealthCare and Digital Medicine these days?Advantages of wireless technologies, miniaturization and computing power are among main drivers of reformation towards value-based healthcare services which will have a profound impact on patients, clinicians and medical industry.  Investors, who are committed to supporting the entrepreneurs either from the Industrial or Healthcare professionals, are a critical piece of the puzzle. This goes far beyond the ability to deploy capital but developing long-term relationships with entrepreneurs giving them critical feedback along the way, accelerating developing new funding, business and operation models even when an investment is not an immediate fit. We anticipate intimate on-site event with up to 80 attendees of venture capitalists, corporate VCs, foundations and angel investors from Israel and abroad.

Opening 09:30 – 09:50
Keynote by Dr. Sam Shah,
Director of Digital Development, NHS England, UK
Scale and Adoption of Digital Technology within Front-Line Services in the NHS: From Policy to Delivery
Countries across the world are turning to digital solutions to address increased population needs, and the associated nuances arising from an aging demographic and more complex health needs. This digital era has created new challenges and opportunities for the NHS to keep up with growing demand. Dr. Sam Shah looks into the operational scale and adoption practices of front-line NHS services from policy through to delivery.
09:50 – 10:20
Keynote by Prof. Arnon Afek, Associate Director General, Sheba Medical Center & Acting Director of Sheba General Hospital, Israel
The Israeli Healthcare System: Addressing Challenges Through
Innovation
Israel has established one of the most advanced and envious healthcare systems in the world, but the increased financial burden it presents, coupled with the essential need to recruit the brightest and best minds, demands we approach these challenges in an innovative manner.
In my lecture, Sheba Medical Center’s model will be showcased and discussed.

10:20 – 10:50
MEDinISRAEL Innovation Award – Digital Everything Track:
Moving beyond traditional thinking around healthcare delivery
Chair of the Judging Team – Dr. Eduardo Cordioli,
General Telemedicine Manager, Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Brazil
Telehealth Urgent Care for Extremely Remote Locations
Drilling operations in deep sea waters represent a challenge.
Platforms are located up to 300 km offshores. It keeps only 100 to 200 healthy employees onboard, and although onboard crew is carefully selected and trained to stay on such remote and hostile environments, they can be, as anyone, afflicted by acute health conditions. Disembark procedures are hugely expensive and not always possible. Also, providing an onboard doctor for every platform is unworkable due to high costs and limited availability. In that scenario, an approach to urgent care delivery at a distance through telemedicine turns out to be a feasible option.

10:50 – 11:30
Keynote by Dr. Carlo Barbieri,
Director Care Value Advanced Analytics, Fresenius Medical Care, Germany
How AI Will Allow to Move from Prescribing Treatments to Prescribing Outcomes: The Case of Fresenius
As new technologies are transforming the medtech industry, companies must continue to create value for key healthcare stakeholders and keep business sustainable. Developing new funding, business and operating models leveraging digital capabilities becomes crucial for the traditional medical device industry. Fresenius Medical Care is the world’s leading provider of products and services for people with chronic kidney failure, this session will briefly highlight the daily challenges facing nephrologists and illustrate how AI will support FME in creating value through digital services.
11:30 – 11:50
Keynote by Elena Sini,
HIMSS Italian Community – HIMSS Europe Governing Council, Italy
IoT Adoption Strategy in the Hospital Environment
As we are entering a new era of personal health, IoT devices will play a crucial role in transforming the healthcare experience from an episodic relationship to a continuous and ongoing journey.
IoT is transformative in its long-term potential but effective adoption is still challenging although hospitals have been prolific early adopters in bringing new technologies into their space with medical devices.
IoT adoption is creating a new set of realities to address such as organizational governance policies and specific operational requirements in terms of security and compliance while entering the healthcare provider environment outside of the CIO’s purview, due to the lack of a centralized IoT adoption strategy.
11:50 – 12:10
Keynote by Dr. Maki Sugimoto,
The Research Center for Advanced Science & Technology, University of Tokyo and Co-founder, Director & COO, Holoeyes Inc., Japan
VR/AR/MR, Holography, and Arterial Intelligence for Personalized Data-Driven Precision Medicine
Utilization of virtual-augmented-mixed reality in medicine is a safe and flexible platform that enables remote sharing of a natural, intuitive and reproducible clinical experience with multiple people, allowing trial and error. It is expected that these will be developed into Precision Medicine, which will further Personalize Medicine by selecting radiological analysis of patient’s individual medical imaging data, further select individual analysis and establish optimal treatment method for each specific group.
12:10 – 12:30
Networking Lunch 12:30 – 14:00
Fireside Chat
Assaf Barnea, CEO, Sanara Ventures Chairman, Israel & Life Science Advisory Board, The Israel Export Institute, Israel
Arundhati Parmar, VP and Editor-in-Chief, MedCity News, US
Best Practices for Healthcare Collaboration between Corporates and Startups: How to Dance with a Gorilla
14:00 – 14:30
Keynote by Dr. Lena Granovsky,
Director, Analytics and Big Data, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Israel
Digital Transformation of Pharma in the Age of Big Data
We all know that technology and big data analytics are rapidly evolving to revolutionize virtually every aspect of our lives. Most parameters of relevance these days can be measured by wearables, implantables, digestibles, and self-reported outcomes. Technology, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence are now demonstrated useful in health management and drug discovery and development. Patients and physicians progressively adopt the technology. Pharma is the next frontier of the digital revolution. It utilizes data from smart medical devices, wearables, and real-life evidence to construct digital markers, develop predictive models and conduct patient-centric smart clinical trials.
14:30 – 14:50
MEDinISRAEL Innovation Award – AI and Data in HealthCare Track:
Moving data to the heart of healthcare systems
Chair of the Judging Team Olaf Lodbrok,
SVP Precision Medicine, Elsevier, Germany
Elsevier: Driving Innovation Through Data and Knowledge
We have a vision: to improve health outcomes and reduce the cost of care. To achieve that vision, Elsevier is combining the knowledge embedded in our millions of scientific articles and thousands of books with large health data sets. For example, we have extracted 5 million symptoms to disease relationships from the literature and are combining these with 1600 prediction models from 5 million patient data sets to suggest uncommon or rare diagnoses to clinicians. We employ a comprehensive knowledge graph to make ontologies, taxonomies, and the extracted relationships interoperable with the data.

14:50 – 15:30
Keynote by John Nosta, President, NostaLab, US
Health Technology and Humanity at an Inflection Point
We all are at a point of human transformation. From consumer empowerment to artificial intelligence, the fundamental aspects of medicine are being tugged by various forces of change. Take a journey back 100 years and see how today’s trajectory for the next 100 promises to advance humanity in ways that are amazing and unimaginable.
